Kilian Schadt is the new Managing Director of the International Diaconate Centre
On 1 August 2024, Kilian Schadt took over the position of Managing Director of the International Diaconate Centre (IDC) in Rottenburg, succeeding Deacon Jörg Stein.

Deacon Erik Thouet (Vice President of the“I’ve always enjoyed working with and for people and I’m sure that with my balanced, communicative nature I have the right qualities to tackle the diverse tasks at the IDZ,” says Kilian Schadt and is looking forward to making his labour and creativity available for the important goals of the IDZ – documentation, communication and the further development of the diaconate.
Networking with members and relevant organisations in other countries is an important task. This includes, for example, participating in national meetings of permanent deacons, advising bishops’ conferences on training curricula and helping to initiate and develop the diaconate in various countries. In addition to German, Mr Schadt speaks English and French. He has very good management and organisational skills, many years of knowledge and professional experience in public relations.
His first tasks include the organisation and implementation of two conferences: From 17 to 20 February 2025, the international study conference “Deacons: Joyful Witnesses of Hope” in Rome with up to 200 participants, followed by the “Jubilee of Deacons” in the Holy Year from 21 to 23 February.
Kilian Schadt (43) is married, father of four children and lives with his family in Baden-Baden. He grew up with two brothers in Ravensburg. He studied hotel and catering management with a partner company in Bensheim/Hesse at a cooperative state university. For many years, he was active as a volunteer in Christian youth work, at youth camps and at World Youth Day. After gaining experience in various 5-star hotels for three years, he took over the management of the guest and conference centre of the Cistercian nuns – Lichtenthal Abbey in Baden-Baden. Alongside work in the monastery, where he was able to set up a varied course programme with the sisters, he is also involved in the parish team of the St. Boniface parish in the Baden-Baden pastoral care unit.
