Simon Yuk-keung Chan, Deacon Candidate from Hong Kong
Simon is a Permanent Deacon candidate in the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong.
His call was stimulated by the death of his mother whom had big influence in
Simon’s character formation yet has not had a chance to meet the Catholic faith.
Simon would like to bear witness of Jesus and help people to be united with the
Catholic Church.
A veteran in telecommunications, Simon works in the IT/Telecommunications and
consulting field for over 25 years and has worked as the Asia Pacific
Telecommunications Manager and Senior Consultant for a major IT MNC (Digital
Equipment Corporation, now HP), with experience to procure, design, implement,
manage and operate many voice and data services as well as providing IT
infrastructure solutions to multi-national customers throughout Asia.
Recently, Simon is working as IT, Communications and Fund-raising Officer for
Ricci Social Service Foundation (www.casaricci.org), a NGO aims to reduce
discrimination among people affected by leprosy or HIV/AIDS, in a part-time
basis in Macau while started his study in Theology in preparation for his
Permanent Deaconate.
Simon has over 30 years of public service and volunteer services and is a
corporate member of the HK Institution of Engineers and a full member of HK
Computer Society. He graduated in 1981 from the Engineering Faculty of
University of Hong Kong as a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
majoring in electronics.
