On 15th and 16th November 2015 a meeting of deacons, candidates for the diaconate and wives, was held in Saint Paul’s House of Prayer, in Sheung Shui, Hong Kong. At this meeting participated as speaker Montserrat Martínez, representative of the wives of deacons at the International Center of the Diaconate. Montserrat Martínez was invited by Fr. Dominic Chan, Vicar General of Hong Kong.

Dominic Chan, Vicar General of Hong Kong and Montserrat Martinez, member of IDC board The Encounter was attended by 27 people, deacons, candidates, applicants, wives and members of the Diocesan Commission for the Permanent Diaconate.
In her talks, Montserrat Martínez treated the Relationship between marriage and diaconate, Formation of deacons, candidates and wives, Spirituality of deacons and deacons’ wives, the Diaconate in the world and in the Diocese of Barcelona, and the International Center of the diaconate. The talks raised many questions and comments; especially about the mutual enrichment that occurs between the sacraments of marriage and of order, about the attitude of the wife in the response to the vocation of the husband, and about the consent given so that the husband can be ordained as a deacon.

Deacons in Hong Kong Deacons in Hong Kong On the other hand, after dinner, wives kept an extensive and enriching dialogue, in which they could share their experiences, their difficulties and their hopes.
At the end of the meeting, everybody gave thanks to God for having been able to share prayer, the Eucharist, the reflections and friendship.
