Pope Francis appointed the 60-year-old as Bishop of Rottenburg-Stuttgart following his election by the Rottenburg Cathedral Chapter. The ordination took place on 1 December 2024 in Rottenburg. Klaus Krämer is the 12th bishop of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese, succeeding Bishop Dr Gebhard Fürst, who retired on 2 December 2023 at the age of 75.

The Board of the IDZ was also invited to Rottenburg for the ordination and used this opportunity for an intensive Board meeting to press ahead with preparations for the upcoming study conference in Rome.

The morning after the ordination, part of the IDZ Board was able to meet with Bishop Krämer. When asked whether he would take on the protectorate of the IDZ, he answered a resounding yes without hesitation.

The Board of the IDZ is very grateful to Bishop Dr Klaus Krämer for taking on this task for the IDZ and is convinced that he will be a very good protector for the IDZ with his many years of experience in the global church.

We wish him God’s blessing and the guidance of the Holy Spirit for his episcopal ministry.
