The IDC is a movement for the renewal of the Permanent Diaconate aimed at men and women in the Catholic Church.
It is a Church-recognised registered association, supported by committed lay people, deacons, priests, theologians and bishops worldwide.
It is a centre which collects, transmits, but also stimulates reflections, initiatives and experiences around the diaconate throughout the world.
Who is the deacon? Which specific role should be assigned to him? How has this rank of the hierarchy been developing on the various continents since its re-introduction by the Second Vatican Council? Members from more than 50 countries seek for answers and contribute to the structuring of the diaconate’s profile.
In 1965, an International Study Conference took place in Rome on the topic of “The Deacon in the Church and World of Today”. Cardinals, bishops, theologians, women and men from all over the world take part in this event..Founded in this context, the “International Diaconate Centre” has been promoting, ever, since then, the ministry of the deacon within a Church with a diaconal face.
L’IDC si sforza verso l’internazionalizzazione e, allo stesso tempo, verso la regionalizzazione del suo lavoro. Molte regioni si sono affermati al di fuori dell’area di lingua tedesca.
